Whitewater Kayaking and Training

Over the winter UAC has acquired a number of various styles of kayaks designed for more than just your average slow river tour. We have spent many days during the colder months experimenting with these boats in the Lawrence Free State Aquatic Center's indoor pool -- learning how they maneuver, how to roll and numerous other whitewater techniques. These boats are meant for rougher waters and steep waves.

This new branch of UAC will be offering some services in addition to our regular summer season floats. Our plan is to offer open sessions at the Free State indoor pool, white water kayaking oportunities loacted in the Lawrence area or just to offer the chance for anyone interested to come and get their feet wet -- literally -- with white water kayaking. Whether you're looking for a safe place to experiment with being in a kayak for the first time, or if you're wanting to try out a playboat and learn to roll, we'd love to show you what we know.

We'll be using this section of the web site to keep you posted on upcoming pool sessions and, as the weather warms up, scheduled sessions at the Wakarusa River and some local creek lines. Check back soon for some scheduled dates.
